MAPLETON – Oliver J. Carney, 67, died March 20, 2004, at his residence in Mapleton, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 25, 1936, in Ashland, the son of Joseph and Evelyn (Saucier) Carney. He was employed as a logger for his brother, Francis, and for other logging operations for many years. Oliver enjoyed his work as well as hunting and fishing. In addition to his mother of Presque Isle, he is survived by his companion of many years, Evelyn Tardie of Mapleton; one daughter, Paula Hammond and her husband, Frank, of Lincoln; three sons, Paul Carney of Littleton, Colo., Gary Carney of Melbourne, Fla., Randy Carney and his wife, Heidi, of Presque Isle; one stepson, Gerald Tardie and his wife, Terri, of Nashville Plantation; three sisters, Gloria Bernier of Mapleton, Maxine Holmes of Presque Isle, Florence Pelkey and her husband, Eugene, also of Presque Isle; three brothers, Alvery Carney and his companion, Dora, Francis Carney and his wife, Nancy, all of Ashland, Alcide Carney of Mapleton; eight grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Jacob, Emily, Courtney, Sammie, Dennis and Matthew. He will also be missed by special friends, Francis Churchill and Ferland Garland. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral Mass to be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the St. Mark Catholic Church, Ashland, with the Rev. Scott Mower, pastor, celebrant.
