HOULTON – Opal L. (Delong) Whittaker, 91, died Oct. 15, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 13, 1912, at Monticello, the daughter of Luther M. and Ella Pearl (Lentenine) Delong. Opal was a member of the Military Street Baptist Church and the Town & Country Senior Citizens. She worked at Togus Hospital as a dietitian until her retirement in 1967, moving to Houlton in 1972 after her husband Fred’s retirement. Opal is survived by one son, Thomas Whittaker Sr. of Troy; four grandsons, Jeffery Whittaker of Mississippi, Thomas Whittaker Jr. and his wife, Anita of South China, Michael Whittaker of Auburn, J. Ross Whittaker and his wife, Kristen of Massachusetts; two great-granddaughters, Katie and Kristen Whittaker of Auburn; one brother, Ray Delong and his wife, Betty of Smyrna, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred C. Whittaker in 1994; four sisters, Lona Grass, Jean Pullen, Hilda Corey and Madeline Ford; four brothers, Elbridge, Clayton, Lee and Mailen. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jewell Cemetery, with the Rev. Randall Burns officiating.
