NORTH BERWICK – Opal M. Chambers, 88, formerly of Smyrna Mills, passed away Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, in H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford. She was born Jan. 7, 1916, in Oxbow, a daughter of Charles and Iva (Chase) Condon For the past 12 years, she had lived in North Berwick with her granddaughter and her husband, Gloria and Dennis McMahon. For many years she was employed by the Long Lane School for Boys in Middletown, Conn. Opal was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed tending to all of her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Whitney Chambers; a grandson, Gordon Whitney Worcester; and a great-granddaughter, India Tavares. She is survived by a son, Terrence Chambers of Durham; two daughters, Jeanette O’Clair of Sanford, and Simone Vitkus of North Branford, Conn.; two sisters, Ruby Marquis of East Hampton, Conn., and Donna Cirelli of Providence, R.I.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at the Johnson Funeral Home 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, with a funeral service directly following. Spring interment will be in the Moro Private Cemetery in Moro. Arrangements by the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick, and the Bowers Funeral Home of Island Falls.
