ORLANDO, Fla. – Opal left us on the morning of Dec. 30, 2005, at her home in Orlando, Fla., unexpectedly, but after a lengthy illness. Opal was born July 4, 1925, in Winterport, to Stanley F. Moran Sr. and Effie (Locke) Moran. Opal spent her youth and teenage years in Winterport on the family farm and graduated from Winterport High School in 1943. After graduation, Opal went to work at Bath Iron Works doing clerical work as part of the war effort of building Navy ships. In 1946, she married Montsaul F. Brown upon his return from the army. In 1960, they moved to Orlando where they made their home permanently. Opal worked as an engineering secretary with many firms in Orlando until her retirement. She was a gifted seamstress and crafter making many beautiful items for her family and friends through the years. Opal is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Montsaul F. Brown of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Donald of New Bern, N.C. and Robert of Knoxville, Tenn.; one dearly loved grandson, Marty; and two beloved great-grandchildren, Erin and Aidan. Opal is also survived by six siblings, sisters, Frances McLaughlin and her husband, Elden, of Winterport, Josephine Moran of Bangor and Norma Greenacre of Lawrenceville, Ga.; brothers, Paul Moran and his wife, Margie, of Valdosta, Ga., Ralph Moran and his wife, Margie, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Stanley F. Moran Jr., and his wife, Virginia, of Medfield, Mass., many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Jan. 2, in Orlando, Fla. with private burial following. Anyone wishing to remember Opal is asked to contribute to the American Cancer Society.
