BANGOR – Hazel Ida Andrews, 102, passed away Jan. 15, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare center. She was born May 26, 1903, in Bangor, the daughter of Leroy and Grace (Moore) Roberts. Hazel and her husband Lamont owned and operated the Hazemont Diner on Outer Hammond Street in Bangor. Her husband passed away 1955, after a year long illness and Hazel continued to operate the business for a few more years. Hazel had a cottage at Hermon Pond where she spent her summers until she was well into her nineties. Her children and grandchildren spent many happy hours there. Cards were another favorite past time especially canasta. She played bi-weekly with her sister and friends for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Byers and husband, Ronald, of Brewer; her son-in-law, Duncan Robertson of Bangor; three grandsons, James Robertson and wife, Linda, of Old Town, Gerald Robertson and wife, Sylvia, of Carmel, Richard Robertson and wife, Bonnie, of Holden; four great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Patricia Reynolds and husband, Terry, of Hermon; a brother-in-law, Leslie Andrews of South Portland; a sister-in-law, Merle Roberts of Florida, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lamont; a daughter, Shirley Robertson; grandson, Michael Byers; sisters, Mildred Ackler, Arline Gorman and Madaline Leathers; a brother, Ralph Roberts. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Foley Funeral Services, 299 Union St., Bangor with the Rev. Dr. Mark Allen Doty, pastor of Hammond Street Congregational Church officiating. The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to their favorite charity.
