JONESPORT – Oriana (Gamba) Alley, 83, passed away May 16, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Pisa, Italy, the daughter of the late Leonitina and Allessandro Gamba. Oriana met her husband, Stuart Leon Alley, while he was stationed in Italy during World War II. They were wed and she came to the U.S. in June 1946. Oriana worked for many years at Rogers True Value, Jonesport. When she retired from there at age 60, she took a certified nurse’s aide course and worked at the Resthaven Nursing Home. Oriana also did private duty until her health prevented her from working. Oriana was known for her Christmas smorgasbord. She loved the Fourth of July and Christmas, as that was when all the family would gather together. She touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her and will be sadly missed. Oriana was predeceased by her husband, Stuart; and close friends, Ernestine and Frances. She is survived by son, George L. Alley and wife, Sheila, of Jonesboro; son, David E. Alley of Beals; grandchildren, Stacie Ludden and husband, Jeff, Brian Alley and wife, Angeline, Jessica Sproul and husband, Bud, Jenna Kelley and husband, Kenneth, Jonathon Alley, and Joseph Bailey; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Alexis, Lauryn, and Jordan; two sisters, Edda and Guisippina; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Charlotte Beal, Helen Feeney, and Dorothy Alley; and daughters-in-law, Gloria McDonald and Beverly Mace. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church, Jonesport, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, officiated by Pastor George Woodward.
