BANGOR – Orlo O. Syphers, 86, died Dec. 7, 2007, at Togus Veterans’ Hosp-ital, Augusta. He was born June 21, 1921, in Mars Hill, the son of Justin and Fern Syphers. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific, where he was wounded on Guadalcanal Island during that campaign. He worked for many years as grounds manager for the Pozzy and Farrington families in Bangor, where he was able to apply the experience and skills he learned as a member of the Conservation Corps prior to World War II. Orlo was predeceased by his brother and sister, Eugene Syphers of Bangor and Kay Smith of Newport. He will be remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Sylvia Syphers of Aguila, Ariz.; granddaughter, Ann Syphers of Garden Grove, Calif.; grandson, David Syphers; and great-grandson, Josh Syphers of Waterloo, Ind.; and special friend and companion, Arlene Stearns of Brewer. There will be a memorial service and burial at Togus Veterans’ Cemetery in June.
