BANGOR – Ruth Evelyn (Duston) Coupal, 87, wife of the late Joseph R. Coupal Jr., died peacefully Dec. 11, 2007, surrounded by her family at home. She was born April 23, 1920, in Hampstead, N.H., daughter of Levi E. and Myrtis C. (French) Duston. Ruth was a member of All Souls Congregational Church, where she was actively involved in the Gardeners Club. She was also a longtime mem-ber of P.E.O. Chapter A. She enjoyed many outdoor activities, including gardening, bird-ing and swimming. She was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. Ruth was a devoted member of Red Sox Nation. In recent years, she most looked forward to annual weeklong reunions with her family on the coast of Maine. She is survived by her four children, Deborah Rozeboom and her husband, Kenneth, of Bangor, Carol Popelka and her husband, Roger, of La Crosse, Wis., Jennifer Duston and Evan Mapoles of San Ramon, Calif., and Jonathan and his wife, Catherine, of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth and Juliana Rozeboom, Jonathan and Daniel Popelka, Elena and Adam Coupal. She is also survived by her brothers, Leslie Duston, and Gene Duston and his wife, June; her sisters, Florence Butters, Dorothy Sundman, Virginia Brickett and Thelma Petell and her husband, Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Joseph, she was predeceased by her brothers, Harold, Kenneth and Donald Duston. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher, and the Rev. Renee U. Garrett, minister of Christian Nurture, officiating. Immediately after the service, friends and family are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the church vestry.
