BAR HARBOR – Osborne P. Tinker, 74, passed away peacefully Aug. 8, 2008, at a Bangor hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 5, 1934, in Lubec, the son of Charles and Gladys (McLaughlin) Tinker. Having graduated from Lubec High School in 1952, Ozzie then attended Washington State Teacher’s College, Machias, for two years. The next year he transferred to the University of Maine, Orono, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education. His teaching career began at Lubec High School as a teaching principal. After six years he and his family moved to Stonington, where he continued his career. Leaving Stonington after four years, Ozzie and his family moved to Bar Harbor, where he accepted the position of principal at Bar Harbor High School. When the island’s three high schools consolidated, he accepted the position of the History Department Head, where he taught until 1979. Throughout his teaching career, he also enjoyed coaching track, cross- country, bowling and golf. Although Ozzie was best known in the community as a teacher, he concluded his working career as manager of Bluenose Ferry Terminal in 1992. With the enjoyment of his retirement years came the opportunity to travel, spending the last 13 winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Margie; three children, Terry and his wife, Laurel, Cheri Brown and her husband, Henry and Larry and his girlfriend, Lori Kissinger. He was known as “Buppa” to his grandchildren, Ryan Tinker, Vanessa and Chase Brown, and Brienna and Carissa Tinker. Ozzie is also survived by four half siblings, Elizabeth, Rosalind, Phillip and Raymond. Friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13.
