FORT MYERS, Fla., and LEE Osborne A. Whorton, 88, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. Ossie was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served in both Italy and Africa. He worked for Great Northern Paper, East Millinocket, for 36 years, retiring in 1972. Ossie was an avid woodworker and craftsman, had a friendly and generous spirit and will be missed by all. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gloria Whorton of Fort Myers, Fla., and Lee; daughter, Patricia Boss of Fort Myers, Fla.; sons, Charles Whorton and wife, Myra, of Orono and Thomas Whorton of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He also leaves five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Curtis of Fort Myers, Fla., in 1991. At his request, there will be no viewing and no service. Those who wish may make a donation in his memory to your local animal shelter or to the Lee Historical Society, Route 6, Lee, ME 04455 of which he was a member or to a charity of your choice.
