ORRINGTON – Raymond O. Washburn, 74, died peacefully Jan. 14, 2007, at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. He was born Aug. 18, 1932, in Bangor, the son of Albert and Dorothy (White) Washburn. Ray was a graduate of Hampden Academy and Williams College School of Banking. He was employed by the former Merrill Trust Co. for more than 30 years and was a well-respected part of the management team. After retirement, Ray worked at several companies and most recently at Darlings Honda dealership. He was a devoted member of East Orrington Congregational Church and held many leadership positions throughout his 33-year span, concluding as moderator for two terms and was, at the time of his death, a member of the board of elders. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and completed a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War from 1951 to 1952. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Alberta (White) Washburn of Orrington; four sons, Mark and his wife, Vicki, of Plymouth, Lee and his wife, Patti, of Orrington, Dana of Lewiston, Eric and his wife, Bonnie, of Swansea, Ill.; one daughter, Julie Cox of Bethlehem, N.H.; two step-children, Susan and her husband, Clifford Biardi, of Scarborough and Michael Cox and his wife, Mary, of Orrington; one brother, John Washburn and his wife, Lois, of Manchester, N.H.; sister-in-law, Sylvia Washburn of Bangor; brother-in-law, Richard Ellingwood of Fla.; 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and James; a sister, Joan Ellingwood; a stepson, Steven Cox; and a sister-in-law, Donna Washburn. A service of remembrance will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at East Orrington Congregational Church with Pastor Carl Schreiber officiating. After the service, a time of fellowship will be held at Carlson Hall.
