WINTERVILLE and PRESQUE ISLE – Owen H. Cushman, died Jan. 20, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou after a courageous fight with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Presque Isle, the son of Howard S. and Hazel (Haines) Cushman. He was educated in Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle schools and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1945. He was in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1944, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and retired from the Air Force Reserves as a master sergeant in 1987. He married Frances Skillins of Presque Isle, Feb. 18, 1952. He farmed with his father for several years, was employed by the City of Presque Isle and SAD No. 1, was a member of Trinity Lodge No. 130 A.F. & A.M. of Presque Isle and the American Legion Post No. 176 of Eagle Lake. He was a former member and officer of Aroostook Union Grange No. 143 of Presque Isle and a former Lions Club member in Eagle Lake. Since a young child he enjoyed his home at Cyr of the Lost Hunter, St. Froid Lake. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; a son, Howard and his wife, Michelle and their son, Hale; two daughters, Ann Cushman, Sherry Lunn and her husband, Burt, her children, Erik and Dena Ireland and Burt’s daughter, Danielle, all of Presque Isle; a brother, Wayne Cushman of Mars Hill, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, 79 Fleetwood St., Presque Isle. Services will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 992, Presque Isle; Maine Veterans Home, 163 Van Buren Rd., Suite 2, Caribou; or to a charity of one’s choice. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in the spring.
