FORT FAIRFIELD – Mrs. Norma P. Dorsey, 84, wife of the late Philip W. Dorsey, passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 20, 2004, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a long illness. She was born Feb. 12, 1919, at Bangor, the daughter of Judge Albert F. and Olive (Thomas) Cook. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1936, a graduate of Ricker Junior College, Class of 1937 and Boston University/Sargent College, Class of 1941. Norma was employed as an instructor at Endicott College in 1941 and 1942, Beverly Farms, Mass., and was married to Philip W. Dorsey on Sept. 8, 1947. A lifelong resident of Fort Fairfield, Mrs. Dorsey was one of the founding members of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Fort Fairfield, member of the Philomathian Club, Fort Fairfield, a member of the Aroostook Valley Country Club, Fort Fairfield and was a member of the United Parish Church and United Parish Women’s Group, Fort Fairfield. Norma was active in assisting at the Dorsey Funeral Home with her husband, Philip and brother-in-law, Edward “Buster” Dorsey for many years. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Philip W. Dorsey on April 21, 2001; and one granddaughter, Elise LeVasseur. She is survived by a daughter, Sare D. LeVasseur of Amesbury, Mass.; a sister, Constance Emerson of Charleston, S.C.; granddaughter, Michele Donohue and her husband, James, of Amesbury, Mass.; two nephews, David and Stephen Dorsey; four nieces, Carolyn Chappelle, Anne Hall, Betsy Sass, Ellen Emerson; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Friends may also call 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at the United Parish Church, 4 Church St., Fort Fairfield, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, later in the spring. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the United Parish Church Vestry immediately following the funeral service. Those who choose may contribute in memory of Mrs. Dorsey to the United Parish Church Memorial Fund, care of Joyce Plant, 45 Brunswick Ave., Fort Fairfield, Me 04742 or to a charity of one’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
