UNION – Pamela Lee MacLeod, 62, quick-witted and loving, passed away peacefully May 3, 2007, with family members by her side at a Bangor hospital. Pam was born Aug. 4, 1944, at Eastern Maine Medical Center almost literally on the heels of her twin brother, Kenneth Parker. The two were the first born of Kenneth P. MacLeod and Maida Cosseboom MacLeod, both of Brewer. Maida died in 1947. In 1952, Kenneth married Priscilla “Pat” Ayer of Bangor, who thereafter helped to raise Pam and her siblings. Pam grew up in Brewer and attended local schools where she excelled in her studies, and in activities such as cheerleading, athletics, and student government. In 1962, she graduated second in her class from Brewer High School. In her late teens and early 20s, Pam began a life-long struggle with schizophrenia. She nevertheless graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in sociology in 1967. Her maternal grandmother, Sarah Gardner Cosseboom, of Brewer, provided a loving refuge for her during this time, as well as during other periods in Pam’s life. After a number of turbulent years, Pam went to live in a boarding home in Monson where she slowly recovered a sense of security and stability. In the 1980s, she moved to Seven Tree Manor, Union, where her sweet smile, generous spirit, and occasional stubbornness impressed residents and staff alike. It was at Seven Tree that Pam met the love of her life, Michael Kenniston. The two became inseparable companions. They had almost 15 years of happiness together before Mike was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died in 2001, staying at Seven Tree throughout his illness. Pam became an integral part of the team who cared for him, displaying remarkable steadiness and strength throughout that difficult time. Pam was fond of writing and receiving letters, outings to the Come Spring Caf?, Union, for iced coffee, Bingo and cats. Her main interest and joy in life, however, was family. She particularly treasured those times when the increasingly large brood of which she was a part, came together around the holiday table. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Cynthia MacLeod of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Kathy MacLeod Hooke of Portland; brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Kim MacLeod of Orrington; brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Kathy MacLeod of Brewer; and sister and fianc?, Audrey MacLeod Peavey and Jamie Gallupe of Orrington; five sets of aunts and uncles survive her, Dot and Farr Rowe of Brewer, Roger and Sue Ann MacLeod of Brewer, Sally and Al Webster of Englewood, Fla., Kenny Cosseboom of Lakeland, Fla., and Marilyn and Carl Blaisdell of Bangor. Pam is also survived by nieces, Laura, Erin, Tara, Lauren, and Erica; nephews, Kiel and Ian; and by numerous cousins. In addition to being predeceased by her mother, father, and stepmother, Pam was predeceased by her niece, Maida MacLeod of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Pam’s time among us ended far too soon. She was greatly loved and she will be missed. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. May 17, at First Congregational Church, Brewer. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made in Pam’s name to the Seven Tree Manor Activity Fund, care of Seven Tree Manor, P.O. Box 628, Union, ME 04862.
