GARDINER – Patricia May Grant, 54, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, 2007, from complications due to a brief period of existing with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – ALS. She was born Aug. 17, 1953, in Bangor, the daughter of Harlon and Noreen Robinson. She graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1971, went on to earn a degree from the Augusta School of Business, and later earned her bachelor’s degree from Springfield College. Pat’s compassion for all living things was brought forth each day. Her lifelong work with the state of Maine in the Department of Rehabilitation and more recently as individual support worker in MR services allowed Pat to share her natural tendency for care with those who were in need the most. As Pat worked through her struggles with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, her greatest desire was to be able to return to the work that allowed her to continue to share her love and care for others. Pat also found profound joy in her family and friends. Some of her happiest experiences were shared with her husband of 35 years, Ken, as they traveled throughout the state and country together. She also enjoyed shopping with her daughter and sisters, sharing time with her mother and father, and laughing with her grandchildren, Helaena and Elias. She was predeceased by her father, Harlon Robinson; mother-in-law, Martha Grant; and brother-in-law, Robert Lathrop Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth Grant; mother, Noreen Robinson; daughter, Kerri Holmes; sisters, Judith Andrews and her husband, Donald, Janice Lathrop and her partner, Wayne Jackson, and her twin sister, Pamela Mansir and husband, Mark; sister-in-law, Sharon Parkin and husband, Jack; grandchildren, Helaena and Elias Holmes and their father, Justin Holmes; eight nieces and nephews and their families, Uncle Lenox Ramsay and his family; special friends, Suzy, Paul and Karen, plus many other friends and co-workers, all of whom kept Pat laughing and hopeful during the hardest of times. Another of Pat’s greatest joys was all animals great and small. A service celebrating the life and love of Pat Grant will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Gardiner Congregational Church, UCC, with refreshments immediately after the service. A burial service will be in the spring for family and close friends. In order to continue her legacy of love for animals, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Pat’s name to the Humane Society. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
