TRENTON – Patricia “Pat” L. Hopkins, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away April 26, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 15, 1932, the daughter of the late William and Ora (Bouchard) Tardiff. Pat and her family lived in the East Machias area for 11 years, where she was active in the Eastern Star, served as a Sunday school teacher and PTA president. She and her husband enjoyed participating in Downeast Wheel and Deal Square Dance Club. Pat was also an avid gardener and skilled at cultivating strawberries. Pat was very active in Trenton. For 27 years Pat served as a chairman of the board of assessors for the town of Trenton. She was chair of Trenton Bicentennial Committee. She was also on the planning board, and one of the original founders and first president of Trenton Historical Society. Pat was a member of Trenton Cemetery and Keeping Society, and Hancock County Genealogical Society. Pat loved to collect antique buttons, bird watch, knit, crochet, read and work crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed the time she spent camping with her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, George M. Hopkins; children, Patti-Ann Billings and Ernest W. Hopkins, both of Trenton; one grandson, Benjamin George Billings and companion, Genevieve Myers, of Lamoine; siblings, Raymond Tardiff, John Tardiff, Shirley (Tardiff) Buzzell, James Tardiff, Richard Tardiff and Sharon (Tardiff) Marion; many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth; and two siblings, Joan (Tardiff) Poirier and Daniel Tardiff. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Evergreen Cemetery, Trenton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trenton Elementary School Library, 51 School Road, Trenton, ME 04605.
