MOUNT DESERT – Life long Mount Desert Island resident, Patricia Q. Foley, died March 18, 2005, in Longwood, Fla. Three generations of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were with her in her last days. Mrs. Foley was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of the late William Quimby and Viola Brewer. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh N. Kelly, in 1972; and by her late husband, Dale Foley. She was known for her gracious, friendly nature and her fine sense of humor. Mrs. Foley had a wonderful memory and loved to share stories with her friends and family. She loved people and brightened the lives of all who met her. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends both at her Florida residential community and at Kebo Golf Club during the summer season. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and their families, particularly with the young ones who saw her as the ultimate grandmother. Mrs. Foley was a faithful communicant at Holy Redeemer Church in Bar Harbor for more than 60 years. Mrs. Foley was involved in a number of community activities in Bar Harbor. She served on the board of trustees of the MDI Hospital and served as President of the Hospital’s Auxiliary. She was also a President of the Bar Harbor Literary Club, a member of the Bar Harbor Garden Club and served as a member of the Bar Harbor Club’s board of governors. She was also active in many local charities in Bar Harbor. She is survived by her three children, Carolin Derby of Zellwood, Fla., James E. Kelly of South Portland, and John N. Kelly of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Kelly A. Stoll, Jamie M. Birmingham and Ernest Vollenweider, all of Orlando, Fla., Patricia T. Jarrard of Montgomery Village, Md., Patrick Kelly of Nags Head, N.C., Gretchen E. Giumarro of Portland, Reed A. K. Fahlgren of Los Angeles, Calif. and John C. Kelly of San Francisco, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren, Brittany Rollins, Madison and Cade Jarrard, Nicholas and Stephanie Stoll, Trish and Troy Birmingham, Chase and Hunter Vollenweider and Jackson Giumarro. A funeral mass will take place 11 a.m. May 28, 2005, at Holy Redeemer Church, followed by interment at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery and a reception from 1-4 p.m. at Kebo Golf Club.
