NIANTIC, Conn. – Paul Raymond Bowden, 64, of 2 South Ledge Rock Road, Niantic, Conn., died Thursday night, Nov. 15, 2007, at Fairview, Groton, Conn., after a long battle with Pick’s Disease. He was born May 15, 1943, in Bangor, son of the late Donald Bowden and Thelma Perkins Bowden of Arlington. Paul graduated from Brewer High School, Brewer, in 1961, attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical School through 1964 and then earned a Bachelor of Science with honors from Central Connecticut State University in 1974. From 1961 to 1967 he served with the Air National Guard. After high school he worked for Diamond International and then at Pratt and Whitney as a machinist. In 1974 he started a career with Pfizer, holding several positions in toxicology and then transferred to clinical research. His last year with Pfizer was spent in Sandwich, England, as a senior regulatory associate. While working at Pfizer he took several courses at the University of Hartford and did technical writings and publications. Mr. Bowden was married to Patricia Hunter Bowden, formerly of South Portland, in 1966. He enjoyed golf and tennis in the Pfizer leagues, and recreational boat-ing and travel. Paul also had supervised youth groups at the Marlborough (Conn.) Congregational Church and had been a 10-year member of the U.S. Power Squadron, working his way through the various offices to become commodore. He recently attended St. David’s Episcopal Church, Gales Ferry, Conn. In addition to his mother and his wife, Patricia, he is survived by five brothers, Richard and his wife, Charlene, of Eddington, Philip and his wife, Nancy, of Savannah, Ga., Barry and his wife, Dinah, of Brevard, N.C., Brian and his wife, Darlene, of Orrington and Keith Bowden and his wife, Heather, of Gorham; 15 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and great-nephews, and one godchild. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Gales Ferry, Conn. Private burial will be at Bayview Cemetery, Brunswick. There are no visiting hours.
