SEARSPORT – Paul S. Spates, 87, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in Bangor. He was born Aug. 7, 1920, the son of George P. and Sarah H. (Hoyer) Spates, in Baltimore. Paul was a World War II Navy veteran and enjoyed model boat building and sailing. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Croft) Spates; father of Pamela Sothern and her husband, John, of Bellevue, Wash., and Jillian Newman and her husband, Don, of Charlestown, Mass. His service and burial will be private at a later date in Chester, Nova Scotia. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to Maine Veterans’ Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements are under the directions of Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
