ORONO – Paula Mary Powers, 40, died June 8, 2007, after a long struggle with diabetes. She was born June 1, 1967, in Bangor, to the late Cecil and Mary Belle (Cousins) Powers of Stillwater. A 1985 graduate of Woodland High School, Paula got a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maine in Orono in 1989. She lived and worked in Southern Maine for many years and loved working at L.L. Bean, as mascot, Elly Bear. Recently she had worked at Walt Disney World, fulfilling a life long dream. Paula loved lilacs, cribbage, animals and cooking. She always remembered the special days in the lives of her family and friends. Her zest for life was inspiring to all. Paula will be dearly missed by her sister, Janet Thomas and husband, Phil, of White River Junction, Vt.; sister, Judy Griffin and husband, Kevin, of Germantown, Wis.; sister, Patty Vinzani and husband, Bernie, of Whiting; brother, Ed Powers of Alexander; nephews, Ben, Alex, Paul, Mike, Dan, Kyle and Antonio; nieces, Meg, Kathy, Mary and Ruth; and her kitty, Bear. Friends are invited to gather with the family 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a celebration of her life will be held 4 p.m. Interment will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town.
