PATTEN – Pauline Arbo Foster, 80, passed in peace May 17, 2008, with her children by her side. She was born May 27, 1927, at the Happy Corner family farm in Patten, to the late Frederick L. Sr. and Faustina (Scribner) Quint. She was a 1944 graduate of Patten Academy and the University of Maine in 1948. Pauline was a home economics teacher at Stearns High School, Millinocket, from 1948 to 1952, substituted at Patten Academy throughout several years and then taught home economics at the opening of Katahdin High School in 1967, until retiring in 1984. She was a past matron of Pleiades Chapter OES; belonged to Molunkus Chapter OES; past noble of Grand Rebekah Lodge of Patten; member of VFW, Island Falls; member of Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, where she taught Sunday school for many years; past president and honorary member of Patten Women’s Club; Patten Academy trustee and secretary for many years; chairman of Southern Aroostook Extension Service for many years; and Patten Academy 4-H leader. Pauline was a member of MTA, Maine Future Homemakers Association and HERO; past area chairman of American Red Cross; and school board member of SAD 25. Pauline married the late Russell E. Arbo, in 1949, with whom she had nine children and later in life married the late Halton Foster, in 1982. Pauline is survived by eight children, Margo and Dan Sartory of Port Orange, Fla., Michael and Dawn Arbo of Patten, Mari and John Birmingham of Patten, Martin and Darlah Arbo of Patten, Matthew and Cindy Arbo of Dry Branch, W.Va., Malcolm Arbo of Providence, R.I., Maxfred and Paula Arbo of Cross, S.C., and Martha and Steven Trembley of Patten; 10 special grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Frederick Quint Jr. of Patten; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be missed by her special friends, “The Hood” of Port Orange, Fla., where she spent several winters. She was predeceased by a son, Mark Arbo; a special granddaughter, Tina Birmingham; and sisters, Margaret Laurusonis, Winifred Bradstreet and Melvina Hathaway. Friends may call 11 a.m.-noon Thursday, May 22, at Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tae Sung Kang officiating. Interment will be at Patten Cemetery.
