BAR HARBOR – Pauline MacMackin Cooper died July 4 at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor. Polly was born April 19, 1925, in Camden, N.Y., to Frank MacMackin and Oletha Colclough MacMackin. Polly was a beautiful, vibrant, intelligent woman who devoted her life to her husband and children. Polly was a member of the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, Literary Club, Kebo Valley Golf Club, Past President of the Mount Desert Island Hospital Auxiliary, the Bar Harbor Warrant Committee, and a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed knitting and reading, was an avid bridge player, a fanatical sports fan and enjoyed playing golf and was always ready for a good party. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Llewellyn W. Cooper MD of Bar Harbor; three sons, Thomas L. Cooper MD and his wife, Carlene, of Cape Elizabeth, Robert D. Cooper and his wife, Alice, of Bar Harbor and James W. Cooper and his wife, Marva, of Prescott, Ariz.; one daughter, JoAnn Sawyer and her husband, Clifford, of Yarmouth; grandchildren Brooke, Brett, Christian and Andrew Cooper, and Benjamin, Brenton and Kaitlyn Sawyer; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Lorin Cooper; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lorin Cooper; an older brother, Robert of Andover, Mass.; and a younger brother, Grant of Cazenovia, N.Y. Visiting hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Jordan-Fernald Bar Harbor Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, with Dr. Sandra Reed and Mary Carol Griffin officiating.
