BIDDEFORD – Pauline Walls Segee, 84, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Southern Maine Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1924, in Millinocket, the daughter of Howard and Angeline (Blanchard) Walls. She graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1942 and Farmington Normal School, Class of 1945, trained to be a teacher, and taught in Kittery for one year. On July 12, 1946, she married the man of her dreams, Merrill “Bud” Douglas Segee, in Lincoln. Polly was very active in her community. While raising three children, she was elected to serve two terms on the school board, appointed as the Baptist church Sunday school superintendent for six years, and organized and started Pack 57, a local Boy Scout troop. She also became a Cub Scout den leader, Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She helped her children earn Eagle Scout, Curved Bar and Life Award. In 1979, she started the Millinocket Town Museum and eventually accumulated more than 1,200 artifacts, among her other duties within the town museum was arranging the monthly meetings with interesting guest speakers. Another favorite activity was working in local, state and national politics, always the Democrat. Writing was a strong suit, and she wrote articles for the Millinocket Journal and as secretary to East Millinocket Snowmobile Club for 10 years, she submitted a monthly article to the Maine Snowmobile Club Newsletter. In 1962, she traveled to the University of Maine – Orono to complete her fourth year of college and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in education. In 1964, she went back to teaching and taught math and health to eighth grade students for 20 years, before retiring in 1984. Since she and Bud had paid for all of the expenses to put their children through college, they decided to enjoy retirement by traveling around the world to many places and faraway countries, including China, Japan, Australia and Brazil. Polly is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bud of Hollis; her daughter, Angela Fay Laustsen and her husband, Kenneth, of Waterville; her sons, David Segee and his wife, Joyce, of Hollis, and Scott Segee and his wife, Liz Wright, of Portsmouth, N.H.; a sister, Maxine Clark of Millinocket; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sjulander and her husband, Mark, Kathryn Lea Laustsen, Daniel Segee, George Segee-Wright and James Segee-Wright; one great-grandchild, Wyatt Sjulander; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by six siblings, Marie Howard, Charlotte Brown, Dorothy Murray, Pat Walls, Donald Walls and Phillip Walls. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Millinocket Baptist Church, 297 Penobscot Ave., Millinocket, with the Rev. Rudy Homchuck officiating.
