OTTER CREEK – Percy P. Walls, 82, died May 23, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home – Bangor. He was born July 19, 1921, in Otter Creek, the son of Harvey G. and Vilda (Lurvey) Walls. Percy was a technical sergeant in the Army Air Forces of the U.S. Army during World War II. His extraordinary achievement while serving as waist gunner on many high altitude heavy bombardment missions against the enemy over Continental Europe, during a period ending Oct. 26, 1944. Sergeant Walls repelled numerous hostile fighter attacks by his excellent marksmanship, thereby assuring the safety of the crew and aircraft. The courage, presence of mind and devotion to duty while engaged in aerial combat on all these occasions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Army Air Forces. He owned and operated the H.G. Walls & Son for many years and Percy enjoyed landscaping, playing golf and his cottage on Spring River Lake. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bar Harbor. He is survived by a son, Michael “Mickey” Walls of Lamoine; a daughter, Christie McKay of West Chesterfield, N.H.; a sister, Marjorie Cough of Bar Harbor; two grandchildren, Michelle Havey of Hancock, Meagan McKay of New Hampshire; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Havey and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Chapel, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. with Pastor Michael Cox officiating.
