LAKE CITY, Fla., HARBORSIDE and CASTINE – Mr. Perry E. Smith Jr., 63, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center, Gain-esville, Fla., after an accident. Mr. Smith was a veteran, having served for four years in the U.S. Navy. His career was spent as a chief engineer and port engineer in the Merchant Marines and traveled the world. He worked with Mobil Oil Corp., for 21 years prior to retiring. He went on to work for several other companies prior to retiring in 1998. Mr. Smith loved gardening, boating, fishing, clamming and restoring boats and tractors. He was a Mason and a member of the Elks Lodge, Grange Lodge, IRA Berry Lodge and AARP. Mr. Smith was predeceased by his father, Perry E. Smith Sr.; and a brother, Edwin J. Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Dorothy C. Smith of Palatka, Fla.; his wife, Cecelia Smith of Lake City, Fla.; a son, Jason Smith and wife, Michelle, of Palmetto, Fla.; a daughter, Elizabeth Smith and husband, Robert, of Brooksville, Fla.; a granddaughter, Madison Smith of Brooksville, Fla.; and a sister, Monalee Pritchard and husband, Charles, of Bettendorff, Iowa.
