CARMEL – Perry “Jake” Marshall Shaw, husband of Arlene Shaw, died at a local healthcare facility in Bangor Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004. He was born in Lowell, Mass., May 11, 1914, the second child of Ira and Velma Shaw. In his early years, he attended schools in Lowell, Mass., then moved with his family to Carmel, where he finished his school years. In 1938, he married Arlene McDonough and continued to reside and raise their family in Carmel. Over the years, he was employed by the State of Maine Highway Department and worked many years as a foreman for Lane Construction Company, Meriden, Conn., in the bridge and highway construction area. After his retirement from Lane in 1971, he was self-employed for many years. He was a member of the Carmel Historical Society and a construction local. Jake had various hobbies, including fishing, farming, gardening and traveling with his wife, Arlene. He and his wife enjoyed snowmobiling, which they did for many years. In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is also survived by one son, Robert Shaw and his wife, Janice of Carmel; eight daughters, Barbara Millett and her husband, Sawin of Waterford, Alice Shaw of Carmel, Velma Shaw of Skowhegan, Edie Anderson and her husband, Flint, of Mammoth, Ariz., Carol Gordon and her husband, Colby, of Hermon, Bonnie Walker and her husband, Danny, of Binghamton, N.Y., Sharon Bragg of Skowhegan and Suzanne Pottle and her husband, Barry, of Hermon; one brother, Ronnie Shaw and his wife, Judy, of McDonough, Ga.; 32 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Jake was predeceased by his mother and father, two brothers, Bobby and Ira; two sisters, Evelyn and Beulah; three infant sons, three granddaughters, Sherri Brown, Karla Millett and Rhonda Shilts; and one great-grandson, Gabriel Tozier. A memorial service for the family only will be held Wed-nesday, Aug. 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church, officiating.
