MILBRIDGE – Philip A. Chipman, 91, of Wyman Road, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at the Narraguagus Bay Healthcare Facility in Milbridge. A lifelong resident of Milbridge, he was born there Sept. 11, 1914, the son of the late John A. and Irene (Beal) Chipman. He worked for Wyman’s for many years; upon retiring he worked for Rockefeller as a caretaker in Seal Harbor and Fosters Island. He worked for many years as a self-employed lobsterman. He was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane for being the oldest living resident in the community of Milbridge. He shared 43 years of marriage with the late Betty A. (Dorr) Chipman, who died in 1994. Family members include his eight children, Cheryl and Lewis Dorr Jr. of Milbridge, Brenda and Robert Davis of West Tremont, Philip Jr. and Jill Chipman and Debby and Gary Alley, all of Southwest Harbor, Mark and Staci Chipman of Manset, Diane and Les Curtis of Hermon, Keith and Janet Chipman and Sandra and Joe Pond, both of Massachusetts; 29 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva of Milbridge and Marjorie of Yarmouth; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Leroy Chipman; three brothers, Thurman, Bill and Milton; and a sister, Arlene Bean. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge, with Owen Beal officiating.
