DEXTER – Philip Dudley Mosley, 78, loving husband of Betty (Philbrick) Mosley, died Jan. 16, 2004, in Dexter. He was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Corinna, the son of the late John D. and Marjorie (Farr) Mosley. He attended the Dexter schools and graduated from N.H. Fay High School in 1947, after returning from serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II, serving in the pacific area. Under the GI bill he learned the heating and sheet metal business at the late H. Rankin Grant Co. in Bangor. He also worked for the late Elmer Grant in Pittsfield before returning to Dexter to start his own business, Penobscot Heating Co. He was active in the Cub Scouts, the Rainbow Girls from which he held the Cross of Color, the DeMolay for boys which he held the honorary Legion of Honor. He was Past Master of Penobscot Lodge No. 39, Past High Priest of St. Johns Chapter No. 25, both of Dexter, he was also a member of the Tri-County Shrine and the Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor. He was the Past Patron of Wassookeag Chapter No. 44 O.E.S. of Dexter. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter. In 1947, he married his wife, Betty Philbrick, of Corinna. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty of Dexter; four sons, Eugene Philip and his wife, Eva, and her sons, Patrick, Daniel, and William West of Norfolk, Va.; John Philip and his wife, Carol, and their children, Sarah and Christopher of Portland; David Philip and his wife, Margie, and their children, Jennifer Ann and her husband, Joseph, and Philip Donald of Dexter; Paul Philip and his wife, Shelly, and their children, Elisha, Benjamin, and Andrew Dudley of Sebago; his adoptive family, Dennis and Nancy Hoskins and their children, Gus and Kathy of Dexter; an adoptive great-grandson, Joshua James Hoskins; and an adoptive great-granddaughter, Paige Marie Hoskins, both of Maine; several nieces, nephews; and special friends, Robert Lee Burner, Dee Dee McEwen, and Ted and Shirley Bryant. Philip is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn Cox of Augusta, and Janet Woodward of Newport. He was predeceased by a brother, Eugene, who was killed in action in World War II; and by two sisters, Arlene Creech of Hamlet, N.C., and Ruth Soucie of Augusta. Philip was very supportive of the Dexter Schools and sports activities that his four sons and grandchildren were active in. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dexter Wrestling Boosters in the care of Margie Mosley, 61 Highland Ave., Dexter ME 04930. At Philip’s request there will not be any services.
