BANGOR and EUSTIS, Fla. – Philip Loren Sprague Jr. passed away Nov. 16, 2006, in Florida, after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Brewer, the son of Philip Loren Sprague Sr. and Vivian (Hassen) Sprague. Philip attended Bangor schools and enlisted in the Navy in 1942, and graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1944. In 1947, he graduated from Wentworth Institute, Boston. He met and married Zelma N. Brewer in 1949. He was employed by the Bangor Hydro Electric Co., where he worked for 42 years as head of the radio department. Philip and Zelma also owned and operated Woodland Terrace Motel and Golf Course for eight years. Phil was a member and past master of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM, Bangor. He was also a past junior grand warden of the Grand Lodge of Maine and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32nd Degree and a member of the Arab Patrol and the medics unit of Anah Shriners. Retiring to Florida in 1990, he enjoyed a very active life. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 42 years, Zelma Sprague; and one brother, Everett Sprague. Surviving are his children, daughter, Sherry L. Sprague of Bangor, a son and daughter-in-law, David L. Sprague and Debra L. Sprague of Sykesville, Md.; two grandsons, Eric W. Sprague, U.S. Navy, stationed in Naples, Italy, and Colin P. Sprague of Sykesville, Md. A memorial service will be held at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, at a later date to be announced.
