HARRINGTON – Philmont E. Davis, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 15, 1928, in Bar Harbor, the son of the late Lawrence M. and Olive M. (Preston) Davis. Mr. Davis attended and graduated from Jonesport High School. He furthered his education at Husson College, Bangor, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Mr. Davis was a U.S. veteran who served during the Korean War in the Air Force. He was stationed in England, where he met his future bride, Mary Joynson, whom he married Nov. 12, 1952, in England. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he became employed by the Maine State Police, where he worked as a trooper. He retired in 1977, from the office of the Secretary of State as a license control investigator. While employed by the state of Maine, he was elected president of the Maine State Employees Association, serving two terms. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Harrington, where he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary November 2002. He was a member of the Tuscan Lodge No. 106, Addison. He became a Shriner, June 19, 1976. He shared 54 years of marriage with Mary (Joynson) Davis of Harrington. In addition to his wife, family members include his four children, Carol Craft and her husband, Robert, of Florida, Linda Hussey of Bangor, Cindy Davis of Bangor, Philip Davis and his wife, Linda, of Harrington; eight grandchildren, John Snider, Jessica Alley, Jonathan Haycock, Lauren Hussey, Darren Craft, Eric Butler, Adam Butler and Anna Butler; five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Bessie Davis; and a brother, Lawrence Davis Jr. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the First Baptist Church of Harrington, Route 1, Harrington, with Pastor Tom Rofe officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private burial will be at Bayview Cemetery, Jonesport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Harrington, R.R. 1 Box 459, Harrington, ME 04643.
