PATTERSONVILLE, N.Y. – Phoebe E. Politz, 97, formerly of Pearl Street in Bangor, resident of Rynex Road in Pattersonville, N.Y., died Thursday evening, Feb. 10, 2005, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was born July 25, 1907, in Millinocket, the daughter of Joseph and Selina Thomas Kalel. She lived in Bangor most of her life until moving to Pattersonville, N.Y., two years ago to be with her daughter. She was a graduate of John Bapst High School. Phoebe was employed as a crossing guard for 35 years in Bangor, starting in 1952. She was a member of the Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary from 1986 to 2002, retiring from the auxiliary at the age of 95. She was a communicant of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Bangor and St. Margaret’s of Cortona Roman Catholic Church in Rotterdam Junction, N.Y. For years, Phoebe loved reading and doing the crossword puzzles in the Bangor Daily News first thing in the morning. She also loved her cat, Van Gogh. On April 29, 1937, she married Walter “Tex” L. Politz, who died Nov. 6, 1986. Survivors include her loving family; a son, Robert Politz and his wife, Caryn, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Carol Duchesne and her husband, Bob, of Pattersonville, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Mark Duchesne and his wife, Kathy, of Scotia, N.Y., Lori McCann of Rotterdam Junction, N.Y. and Lea Duchesne of Taberton, Sand Lake, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Jared Duchesne. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, Rotterdam Junction, N.Y., with the Rev. Dennis Murphy celebrant. Burial will take place in spring in Van Vechten Cemetery, Pattersonville, N.Y. There will be no calling hours.
