PHYLLIS B. BURNS CARMEL – Phyllis B. Burns, 96, died May 31, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a short period of ill health. She was born May 10, 1910, in Newport, the daughter of Bertrand and Alena (Annett) Rowe. Phyllis was married to Gerald B. Burns Sr. who died in 1965. She was employed as a weaver at the Striar Woolen Mill in Corinna for many years. Phyllis loved animals and operated a kennel on Route 2 in Carmel for many years. At the kennel, were dogs and puppies and because of her love for animals she also raised chickens, roosters, horses and peacocks. You never knew what animal would appear next. She also had a green thumb and loved taking care of her beautiful flower gardens. For several years she spent a lot of time at the Carmel Diner, meeting with her friends and always making them laugh. In her later years, she met a lot of new friends at the Woodlands of Brewer and continued to make them laugh and feel good while she was around. She is survived by her son and his wife, Gerald B. and Gail Burns Jr. of Carmel; her daughter and her husband, Kathy M. and Brian Feiffer Sr. of Richland, Mo.; one sister, Dot Nickerson of Newport; five grandchildren, 16 great-grand-children and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by six brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 34 High St., Newport, with the Rev. Charles Farley officiating. There is no public visitation. Burial will be Highland Cemetery, Carmel.
