LIMESTONE and CARIBOU – Preston G. Thompson, 86, husband of the late Ruth (Harvey) Thompson died Oct. 31, 2005, in Caribou. He was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Limestone, the son of Ernest and Lena (Hamilton) Thompson. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II receiving numerous medals and commendations. Mr. Thompson was a well-known self-employed potato grower in Limestone for many years, where he and Ruth were active members of the Limestone United Methodist Church. He was involved with numerous farm groups and organizations during his career. After his retirement in 1978, he and his wife resided in Cape Elizabeth for a number of years, returning to Presque Isle in 1995 and attended Grant Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Norma Thompson and Paul and Pamela Thompson, all of Caribou; two daughters and a son-in-law, Claudia and Steven Carvell of Lakeville, N.B., Canada and Diane Wood of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Andy Shupak of South Portland; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Thompson was predeceased his wife, Ruth, in 2002 and by a sister, Roberta Stitham. Friends may call noon Wednesday until time of services at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from the funeral home with the Rev. Anna Beach, pastor of Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Following the service the family invites everyone to the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Graveside services will he held 10 a.m. Thursday at Brooklawn Memorial Park, South Portland. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Thompson may do so through the charity of one’s choice.
