SAN JOSE, Calif. and FORT FAIRFIELD – Priscilla A. (Jones) Merritt, 75, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at a San Jose, Calif., health care facility. She was born Dec. 17, 1930, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Leland B. and Vena (Smith) Jones. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1948 and went on to attend Eastern Academy of Beauty Culture. Priscilla attended the Grace Baptist Church of San Jose, Calif. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Merritt was predeceased by her husband, Alfred J. Merritt April 8, 2002; three daughters, Susan Hefner, Glenda Merritt and Catherine Merritt; one sister, Alveretta Gillis. She is survived by two sons, Ralph Merritt of Chico, Calif., Lawrence Merritt and his wife, Stephanie, of Bay City, Texas; three sisters, Alice McCrea of East Hartford, Conn., Nancy Gaunce of Port St. Luce, Fla., Martha Mahoney of Caribou; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, eight nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Pacific time Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Grace Baptist Church, 10th Avenue and San Fernando Street, San Jose, Calif., with Pastor Michael Rae officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield at a future date and time, to be announced by the Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.
