GREENVILLE and DEXTER Raymond Carlyle Whitney Jr., 85, died Sept. 1, 2006, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. He was born Feb. 3, 1921, in North Vassalboro, son of Raymond and Bernice (Lord) Whitney Sr. He graduated from M.C.I. and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Ray was a veteran of World War II and flew 35 missions as a pilot in the 12th Air Force. He married Dorothy (Hammond) Whitney and was associated with his father and brother in the oil business in Dexter. He was a past master of Cambridge Masonic Lodge and a member of Anah Shrine, Bangor. He served on many town committees and was a long time director of the Dexter Utility District. He is survived by his wife of Greenville; a son, Douglas Whitney of Greenville; two granddaughters, Darcy Hall and Derica Martin, both of Greenville; and six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Bailey, and Charles Martin and Ethan, Jessica and Sarah Hall. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Whitney. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Memorial Garden Cemetery, Cambridge, with Pastor A. Maurice Neal officiating.
