CHAPMAN – R. Perry Getchell Sr., 82, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. He was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Limestone, the son of D. Emery and Tina Verda (Finnemore) Getchell. Perry was a man who loved the outdoors and enjoyed such activities as fishing, canoeing, hunting, as well as making baskets. Perry had a gift and that was training horses. Many people from around Aroostook County would bring their horse to him to tame. He was able to just simply talk to the animal in order to teach it in many instances. He also did difficult riding stunts. Perry also was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 170 AF & AM of Caribou and had received his 50 year pin. He is survived by two sons, Richard Getchell Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Chapman, Frederick Getchell and Lisa Gardiner of Presque Isle; seven daughters, Helen Getchell of Presque Isle, Caroline and Skip Harrington of Windsor, Vt., Sandra Pictou and her husband, Shannon, of Mapleton, Linda McKinney and Tim Taylor of Caribou, Judith Marie and her husband, Robert Corey, of Caribou, Laura Violette and Brett Felty of Caribou, Jessica Lizotte and her husband, Shawn, of Caribou; two brothers, Fred Getchell and his wife, Charlotte, of Lady Lake, Fla., Garth Getchell and his wife, Phyllis, of Caribou; several grandchildren and great-grand-children as well as many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by a special friend, Louanne Langley of Chapman. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two sons, David and Stephen Getchell. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the Limestone United Methodist Church with Pastor Ellen Cleaves and the Rev. Kenneth Fox officiating. Friends may call noon until time of service at the church. A committal service with a Masonic service will be held at Advent Cemetery, Limestone. There will be a reception following the committal at the church. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in Mr. Getchell’s memory to the Limestone United Methodist Church, Attn.
