CORNISH – R. Wayne Thompson, 58, of Cornish Station Apartments, passed away March 24, 2007, after a long illness at his home. He was born Dec. 25, 1948, in Belfast, a son of Rethel Thompson and Irene M. Thompson Sholes. Mr. Thompson was educated in Belfast schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving several Purple Hearts. Wayne worked many years at the Limerick, Fryeburg & Biddeford Shoe shops and at Ralph & Irene’s General Store, Brownfield. He was a member of the Kezar Falls American Legion. He enjoyed crocheting, watching horror movies, Dark Shadows, Star Trek and the sci-fi channel, country music, old rock ‘n’ roll, Dunkin Donuts, seafood and playing cribbage. In addition to his father, Wayne was predeceased by two brothers, Andrew M. Thompson and Jimmy Nibby. Surviving are his mother of Belgrade; two sons, Kevin W. Thompson of North Conway, N.H., and Joey R. St. Hilaire of Hiram; six brothers, David R. Thompson of Berlin, N.H., Robert Roberts of Swanville, Terry L. Thompson of Searsport, Rethel M. Thompson of Searsport, Peter Nibby of Presque Isle and Andrew Nibby of Presque Isle; six sisters, Waldina M. Anthony of Center Conway, N.H., Cindy I. Hinck of Denmark, Mary E. Wing of Searsport, Roxanne M. Adams of Searsport, Twyla E. Thompson of Searsport and Jeane Thibodeau of Caribou; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Diamond of Porter, Natasha Thompson and Zachary St. Hilaire of South Hiram and Christopher Sargent of North Conway, N.H. A funeral service will be held noon-1 p.m. March 28, at Neal & York Funeral Home, 12 High St., Porter, with Pastor David L. Gilpatric officiating. A burial with military honors will be held later in this spring.
