BELMONT and SEARS-MONT – Erma (Magaw) Stearns, 90, passed away peacefully March 17, 2007, in her sleep at home. She was born July 29, 1916, in Ashland, to George and Eve Magaw, the last of 13 siblings. Erma was a 50-year member of the Order of The Eastern Star, serving as past matron in OES; past master of Honesty Grange, Brooks; past deputy of Waldo Pomona Grange; a 50-year member of Knyvetta Rebecca Lodge, Searsport and past district deputy. She was also the recipient of the Decoration of Chivalry bestowed, by The Sovereign Grand Lodge of Maine. Erma was an avid fisherwoman and loved to hunt. Erma lived her last years at Withee Estates. She spent many happy coffee hours at The Store with all her friends. She would like to say a special good-bye to Carrie Cross and family, Hazel Brown, Linda and Reggie Withee and all her friends at The Store too numerous to mention. Erma was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Merle Stearns; and daughter-in-law, Agnes Stearns. She is survived by her son, Jack Stearns of Vassalboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leah and Basil Wentworth of Brooks and Letha and Roger Wood of Orland. Erma had nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews. At Erma’s request, private graveside services will be held at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Waldo County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
