BANGOR and BREWER Ralph C. Ewings, 81, died Aug. 22, 2006, with family by his side at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Bridgewater, the son of Harry W. and Julia (Bragg) Ewings. Ralph was a 59-year member of the Columbia Street Baptist Church where he was a deacon, deacon emeritus, usher, and served on numerous church committees. For many years he was a salesman for Red Rose Tea Co. Ralph was a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 83 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32nd degree, Anah Shriners and Tuscan Chapter No. 148 OES of Bangor. Ralph was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Edna (Doak) Ewings Sept. 11, 2004; two brothers, Harry in 2001 and Adrian in 2002; and by a sister, Doris Kimball. He is survived by a daughter, Diane M. Merrill and husband, Edward, of Bangor; one son, Dana R. Ewings and wife, Linda, of Mulberry, Fla.; four grandchildren, Suzanne M. Merrill, Michelle A. Merrill Thai, Joseph E. Merrill, Matthew J. Ewings; a great-grandson, Tre Ewings; a great-granddaughter, Lorraine M. Thai; three sisters, Mildred MacPherson of Bridgewater, Birdena Tapley of Linneus and Reta Ewings of Bridgewater. The family thanks the entire staff of Westgate Manor for the wonderful care that Ralph received. Friends are invited to meet with the family 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug 24, and 1-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Sprague, pastor of the Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
