FORT FAIRFIELD – Ralph D. Gallagher, 72, husband of Paulyne Gallagher, passed away Monday morning, June 9, 2008, at a Presque Isle health care facility after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Presque Isle, son of J. Guy and Mary (Campbell) Gallagher. He attended Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield schools, and earned his bachelor’s degree in agronomy at the University of Maine, Orono, Class of 1958. Mr. Gallagher was a biology and earth science instructor at Fort Fairfield High School for 33 years, until his retirement in 1994. He was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield and was married to Paulyne Morin, Feb. 15, 1975. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gallagher was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd and John Gallagher. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Paulyne Gallagher of Fort Fairfield; one daughter, Stacey Gallagher of Groton, Mass; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Lillace Gallagher of Fort Fairfield, Patrick and Anne Gallagher, Gerald and Priscilla Gallagher and Guy and Patricia Gallagher, all of Presque Isle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa and Ambrose Mahoney of Bath, New Brunswick, and Mary and Andreas Schneider of Fort Fairfield; one sister-in-law, Jane and her husband, Wayne Knight, of Ohio; three grandchildren, Brody, Zander and Akasha; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle, at a later date. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral Mass at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Gallagher to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-1905. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
