MACHIASPORT – Ralph L. Wood, 96, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at a Machias health care facility after a sudden illness. A lifelong resident of Machiasport, he was born there, June 10, 1910, the son of the late Will and Martha (Kinghorn) Wood. As a young man he was a self-employed trucker. Later he and his wife, Grace, built, owned and operated Wood’s Grocery Store, Machiasport for many years. He was a member of the Larrabee Baptist Church, Machiasport for many years. Some of his enjoyments were gardening, hunting, and raising his own animals. He shared 77 years of marriage with Grace Wood of Machiasport. In addition to his wife, family members include four children, June Kennedy and husband, Carroll, Beverly Richardson, Gerald Wood and wife, Judy, and Dale Wood and wife, Beverly; a son-in-law, Charles Davis; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Erna Davis, in 2003; a grandson, Charles Davis II; a great-grandson, Daniel Davis; and seven siblings. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, at Trafton Cemetery, Machiasport, with Pastor William Holmes officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
