ELLSWORTH – Ralph O. Beers, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the Maine Veterans’ Home after a brief battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Vanceboro, the son of Horace and Dora (Craig) Beers. Ralph was a Korean War Veteran, during which time he served in the U.S. Navy on board destroyer DD818, USS NEW. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop, building furniture and birdhouses. Ralph made many items for his neighbors in the Ellsworth area. He also enjoyed fishing at Grand Lake Dam with “Butler Dunn and the Gang”, as well as meeting at the Wayside for coffee every morning. Ralph is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alicia Beers of Ellsworth; a son, Rick Beers and his wife, Beth, of Raymond; a daughter, Brenda Beal and her husband, John, of Surry; a special grandson, Shawn Beers and his wife, Stefanie, of Franklin; his special great-grandchildren, Dakota, Taylor and Bailey, who loved to work with Grampy in his workshop; a sister, Nancy Knox of Woodstock, N.B., Canada; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Kinney; and two brothers, Bobby and Hoddy Beers. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff on C-unit at the Maine Veterans’ Home for all the special love and care shown to Ralph and his family during this difficult time. Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Robert Maddocks officiating, following military honors.
