SOUTHWEST HARBOR Ralph “Buz” Sawyer, 76, died peacefully May 3, 2007, with his son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Rhonda, by his side at Brewer Rehab & Living Center, where they took great care of him for the past 19 months. He was born Dec. 1, 1930, the son of Ralph and Lila (Thurston) Sawyer Sr. Buz was friends to many people. His passion was music. He played with The Danny Harper Band and also, Mainely Country in his earlier years. He worked for Hinckley Boat Yard for many years and had retired from C.A. Lewis a few years ago. He liked to “putter” around his house. He loved fishing and camping. He was a mason with the Grand Lodge of Southwest Harbor. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his sons, Robert and wife, Rhonda, Ralph III and wife, Pam, Scott, Edward, Terry, Joe and Jeffrey Sawyer and Reg Bamford; daughters, Lila and Tina; grandchild, Samantha, the light of his life. He was a grandfather to Vicki, Kaitlyn, Ed and Joe Sawyer, Ryan and Rick Kelley, Toni, Reggie and Matthew Bamford and many other grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Mary; sisters, Charlotte and Zelma; and his parents. At Buz’s request, a private burial will be planned.
