CORINTH – Ramon Smart, 76, died Nov. 10, 2005, at a Bangor hospital, after several months of declining health. He was born in Milo, the son of Myron and Blanche (Livermore) Smart. Ramon was educated in the Milo school system and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at the Farmer’s Union in Milo from 1952-1962 as a meat cutter and at Valley’s Steakhouse in Portland from 1962 until his retirement in June of 1994. In 1994, they moved from Portland to their present home in Corinth. Ramon and Edna worked as volunteers at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, for several years doing craft projects with the residents. They also enjoyed the Bangor Nature Club, the wonderful outings and all the special friends in the club. Ramon spent many happy days camping and fishing with his very dear friends, Joe Unnold and Edmond “Red” Parker. Among his many special friends were Sonny and Diane Burton of Milo, Larry and Kay Stanchfield of Hermon, Richard “George” and Cookie Lowell of Cumberland. He will be greatly missed by an old Army buddy, Raymond Wesolowski of Erie, Pa. that he got reacquainted with two years ago. He was predeceased by his parents, Myron and Blanche Smart; and a brother, Forrest Smart. Ramon will be fondly remembered for his kind, gentle ways and sweet spirit. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Ramon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edna Smart of Corinth; three sons, Sam Smart and his wife, Dee, of Naples, Gary Smart and his wife, Diane, of Portland, Ricky Smart and his wife, Margarite, of Gorham; six grandsons, Caleb, Chris, Matt, Nathan, Vincent and Ben; one sister, Ramona Hamlin of Sebec; a brother, Franklin Smart and his wife, Charlotte, of Massachusetts; brothers-in-law, Stanley Clark and his wife, Dianne, of Corinth, David Clark of Florida; sisters-in-law, Shirley Fowles and her husband, Keith, of Florida, Joan Clark of Florida, Helen Lewis and her husband, Calvin, of Orrington, Carol Jean Hammond and her husband, Bill, of Vermont; a special aunt, Lillian Crowell of Brewer; special nephew, Marshall Hamlin of Bangor; and many other special nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome to call 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, and 45 minutes prior to the funeral service to be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at the Orrington Center Church, 468 Dow Rd., Orrington, with Pastor Al Buzzell officiating. Following the burial in Dean Hill Cemetery, Route 15, Orrington, the family invites relatives and friends to the church to share conversation and refreshments.
