BENTON and PRENTISS TOWNSHIP – Ray A. Proctor Jr., 72, died peacefully after a long battle with lung disease, surrounded by family April 5, 2006, at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, the oldest son of Ray and Vella Proctor. Ray enjoyed bowling in Lincoln leagues, also a greater joy was belonging to Maine State Pullers Association and pulling the Skoal Bandit and Razors Edge. Pulling all over Maine, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, he won state championships with both pickups. Ray ran a trucking business called “Proctors Trucking.” His life was filled with hard work to achieve the security that he wanted. Ray was predeceased by his parents; and a younger brother, C. Perry Proctor. In addition to his wife, Karleen of 44 years; he is survived by three sons, James and his wife, Stephanie, of Benton, Stephen and his wife, Gaye, of Lincoln, and Glenn and his wife, Karen, also of Benton; brothers and sisters, Charles and Verna Proctor of Burnham, Alberta and Frederick Fish of Benton, Richard Proctor of Stewart, Fla., Theresa and Myron Whittaker of Clinton, the youngest brother, Ralph Proctor of Vero Beach, Fla., was more like a son instead of a brother. Ray is also survived by grandchildren, Todd Proctor of Nashville Tenn., Michael Proctor of Benton, Travis Proctor of Lincoln and Arkansas, Eliza and Chris Jenkins; and special great-granddaughter, Kiara of Virginia Beach, Va., granddaughter Kelly and Sean Brann; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Colby, as well as many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Rogers Cemetery in Troy. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions in Ray’s name to be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330-5615. Arrangements are under the direction of Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park St., Waterville.
