BUCKSPORT – Raymond C. Downes, 61, passed peacefully March 20, 2008, at home, after an illness of about a year. He was born Feb. 10, 1947, in Castine, the son of Charles and Yvonne (Atwood) Downes. Raymond had lived at home his entire life, he loved everyone and everyone loved him. He is survived by his parents; and two brothers, Richard Downes and his companion, Sally Farnham, Richard’s two daughters, Richelle Brown and her husband, Aaron, and Kelly Oaks and her husband, Scott, and their daughter, Paige, Sally’s two sons, Michael Farnham and his wife, Kristen, and their daughter, Ava and Matt Farnham and his wife, Kim, and their son, Brady; and Robert Downes and his wife, Kathy (Atherton) Downes, Robert’s son, Charles and his companion, Stacy Hazelwood, Stacy’s son, Justin, Charles’ daughter, Morgan, Robert’s daughter, Nicole and her companion, David Wright; a special stepniece, Jessie Gifford and her children, Tyson and Kaylee Gray. Raymond has several uncles and aunts, Bernie Downes of Berwick, Wilfred Atwood and his wife, Martha, Herbert Atwood and his wife, Irene, Frederick Atwood and his wife, Betsy, Ernest Atwood and his wife, Maxine, Joan Bridges, Barbara Thomas, Edith Arnold and her husband, Alden. Raymond had many cousins, including two special ones, Linda and Sandra Thomas; special thanks to Raymond’s friends, Diana Collins, Kathy Downes, Norma and Raymond Dorr. He was predeceased by grandparents, Raymond and Edith Atwood and Evelyn Downes; also by two aunts, Ruth Hutchins and Shirley Grigsby. The family would like to thank Hospice for all their help, and a special thanks to Nurse Judy for her dedication. Private funeral services for relatives and close friends will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. Monday until time of service. Spring interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport. A gathering for family and friends will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sally and Richard’s house on Silver Lake Road.
