PRINCETON – Raymond W. Ross died peacefully, surrounded by family, at his much loved lakeside residence June 29, 2004. He was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Calais, to Bertram and Ethel (Cookson) Ross. He graduated from Calais Academy in 1942. Shortly thereafter he entered the Navy serving his country during World War II from 1943 to 1946. After the war, he attended Aurora College and graduated in 1949 with a degree in history. His career path took him into human resources management, serving in that capacity at Pease Air Base in New Hampshire for many years. He also served as a board member of Service Credit Union (of Portsmouth, N.H.) for more than 35 years and was a member and past president of both the Portsmouth Rotary Club and the Big Lake Campmeeting Assoc. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis F. Ross; daughter, Cynthia Romania and her husband, Frank, of Temple Hills, Md.; son, Lyndon Ross and his wife, Pamela, of Auburn; three granddaughters, Crystal Romania of Midland, Mich., and Hanna and Claire Ross of Auburn. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Helen Pollard of Barefoot Bay, Fla., and Mrs. Elaine Carter of Calais; as well as by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Ross and Mrs. Beatrice Moffitt; four brothers, Louis Ross, Donald Ross, Milton Ross and Linwood Ross. Visiting hours will be held 12:30 until the time of service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 6 at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s memory to Down East Hospice, care of Calais Regional Hospital, 22 Hospital Lane, Calais, ME 04619, or the church or charity of your choice.
