BANGOR and FALMOUTH – Richard A. Hull Jr., 85, formerly of Bangor and Falmouth, died May 11, 2004, in Biddeford, following a short illness. He was born in Chelsea, Mass., on April 27, 1919, the son of Richard A. Hull Sr. and Charlotte W. Hull. He attended public schools in Winchester, Mass., graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. Mr. Hull was a student at Harvard Business School on Dec. 7, 1941, and, along with a number of classmates, enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the following week. After World War II, he competed his education and received his MBA from Harvard Business School. Mr. Hull spent most of his business life in the shoe manufacturing business. He began with LaGrange Shoe Corp. in Red Wing, Minn., then to Norwich Shoe in Norwich, N.Y. and then to Viner Shoe in Bangor, as Director of Manufacturing. After retiring from Ansewn Shoe in Bangor, he became the Box Office Manager of the Bangor Auditorium. On Dec. 2, 1991, Mr. Hull was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane. He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Richard A. III (and Barbara), of Lyman, Charles K. (and Linda) Hull of Portland, Margaret Ann (and Timothy) Winchell of Cincinnati, Ohio, David W. (and Pamela) Hull of Alpharetta, Ga., and Betsy Jane (and Nathan) Boyce of Bangor. He also left 12 grandchildren and a brother, Howard B. Hull of Toledo, Ohio. During his lifetime, Mr. Hull was active with the YMCA and United Way. He enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing and boating with family and friends. He was always up for a cribbage game. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kenneth Kirby officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., following the service Saturday.
