BROOKS – Raynor Smith, 70, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Monroe, the son of Clyde and Evelyn (Johnson) Smith. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Grant Staples American Legion Post No. 183 of Brooks. He was a chicken farmer in Brooks most of his life and he had worked on the tracks of the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Rail Road. Surviving are his lifetime companion, Elizabeth “Betty” Grant Smith of Brooks; three daughters, Cynthia Wheeler of Bucksport, Winona Smith of Brooks, Valerie Smith of Bucksport; three sons, Boyd Smith of Lincolnville, Don Smith of Waldo, Dale Smith of Manchester, N.H. Pete is also survived by three brothers, Alfred of Gardiner, Byron of Three Rivers, Mass., and Lawrence “Smitty” of Morrill. He is also survived by four sisters, Leona “Polley” Bagley of Bangor, Mary Clark of Jackson, Coralee Grass of Winterport and Colleen Putnam of Brooks; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Leroy Smith of Connecticut, Marlowe Smith of Dixmont, Clyde Smith Jr. “Jitter” of Northport and Sherwood Smith of Colorado and one sister, Ernell Bumpus of Monroe. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Brooks Bible Church with the Rev. Brian Thompson officiating.
