HOPE – Robert Carleton Wright Sr., 81, of 788 Barnstown Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Appleton. Born Sept. 1, 1921, in Hope, he was the son of Irvin and Mary (Burgess) Wright. He attended schools in Hope and Camden and married Margaret Kitching on Dec. 24, 1941. A lifelong resident of Hope, Wright was one of the founding members of the Hope Fire Department in 1952. From 1952-1955 he served as the department’s fire chief. He also served on the Hope Board of Selectmen. He had worked at the Hope General Store in his earlier years and had owned and operated his own farm for many years. He raised poultry and sold eggs. His pride and joy was his 50 acres of blueberry fields on Bull Hill, which he proudly developed and maintained by hand. Wright’s hobbies included hunting and fishing. A talented carpenter and woodworker, he built his own home and made furniture, cabinets and crafts for his family and friends. Surviving is his wife, Margaret K. Wright of Hope; three sons, Robert C. Wright Jr. of Hope, Ronald M. Wright and his wife, Dottie, of Wells, Dennis I. Wright and his wife, Sandy, of Hope; one daughter, Terry Mitchell and her husband, Clair, of Appleton; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Lawrence Wright, William Wright and Royce Wright; and three sisters, Marion Hart, Margaret Sprowl, and Louise Wright. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at the Robert E. Laite Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at the Hope Community Bible Church with Pastor Mark Stockwell officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
